How to Pack for a Family Roadtrip

So, what's the best way to pack as much as you can into the smallest amount of space, and still be able to access every item quickly and easily? You want the Japanese folding method "KonMari". Everything is folded into the same dimensions, then stacked vertically so that you can see everything all at once without having to empty the whole suitcase to find your favourite t-shirt. And if you open your suitcase upsidedown... it won't all fall out! For suitcases I recommend purchasing the following items to aid your organised packing: Clothes Storage Boxes These are fantastic for packing clothes into suitcases, especially children's clothes, being so small get easily lost. Socks & underwear in one, t-shirts in another, leggings in another, jumpers and trousers in another. The beauty is, you can lift out the boxes to store larger or less-used items underneath, like a week's stash of nappies, 4 pairs of shoes, a big coat, beach towel etc. This also h...

Mount Rainier

We weren't sure how much to expect from Mount Rainier but wow! We came at a really good time! The Alpine meadows were in full bloom, and aside from a little cloud cover once we were up on the mountain, it was perfect hiking weather. We did a huge 4.5mile hike along the Skyline Trail, which was a little sketchy at times with Emi on my back (we had to shimmy along a glacier at one point). We hiked up a total of 1700feet! It took us all day, but with a lot of snacks and incentives for Luke we did it - we were all aching the next day!! Emi enjoyed the marmots, chipmunks and deer of which there were plenty. We took 100's of beautiful photos, none of which capture the full colour and beauty of the alpine meadows but here are our favourites...

Jasper

Yesterday we travelled up the Icefields Parkway stopping at various lakes and waterfalls along the way, Tangle Creek was awesome, we got soaked in the spray. We also went on the Columbia Icefields excursions where a "Terrabus" with 6 tractor wheels took us onto a the gigantic Abathasca glacier in between two mountains. We also went on a glass walkway over an enormous cliffside which was only slightly terrifying. We spotted lots of wildlife on the way up to Jasper including big horn sheep, a brown bear and a grizzly bear, mountain goats and a few more large mammals with unusual horns that I can't remember the names of. Today we travelled to Maligne Lake and made an impulse decision to hire a canoe for an hour. I was never very good in boats; John decided to make me feel comfortable by occasionally rocking it, making my screams travel across the width of the lake.
