Glacier National Park

We loved Glacier National Park. Yet we had never heard of it before we researched it, it was just "on the way". The photos we saw online did not do it justice!! It has a magical feel to it with ancient woodlands, fallen giant logs covered in moss, gigantic boulders, uprooted trees. It is like something out of Lord of the Rings. The sound of the rushing river was calming as we hiked along Cedar Pass and up  Avalanche creek, then all of a sudden, a lake in a bowl of mountains with waterfalls cascading down all around. The butterflies here are huge and bright yellow with very triangular wings.
Our accommodation in the park was also awesome at Glacier Guides Lodge. The setting of the lodge was lovely and secluded, the room really tastefully decorated with plenty of natural wood touches, the host, Don, was extremely helpful, and the restaurant in the West Glacier village did awesome bison burgers. Like Yosemite NP, we would definitely come and stay for a whole week. Next time I must not forget to try the native Huckleberry pie, and also not to come until July or August to ensure that all the roads and trails have been cleared if snow!
Only one down point in the Rockies, the mosquitos!!
It took us half the day to hike, then we took a 4 hour drive, which was almost completely flat and straight, to Missoula! A small town with no tall buildings. It seems nice. We ate in "Bob Marshalls Biga Pizza" which was yummy but Luke was tired and whingy and kept knocking stuff on the floor so we've put him to bed early!! Tomorrow a long drive to Yellowstone! Goodbye Rockies!
